Pole Creek Trail Description

Get your heart rate up whilst indulging yourself with spellbinding alpine views on the Pole Creek Trail. This epic expedition into the Wind River Mountains is no walk in the park; in fact, it will likely take the entire day to complete this trek. Those who walk at a more relaxed pace or who do not wish to feel hurried are encouraged to pack camping gear and sleep beneath the stars—converting this route into a backpacking adventure. Note that while unlikely, bear encounters are possible, so make sure at least one person in your party carries a can of bear spray.

Setting out from the trailhead, the Pole Creek Trail heads southeastwardly along Faler Creek. Gradually climbing through a stand of pine trees, the route will soon deliver you to an intersection. Veer left here, and you will be diverted onto the Pole Creek Trail. Wander this route through the woodlands before opening to Photographers Point. Revel in the impressive views of the Wind River Mountains from here. Beyond this point, the path will ascend the timberline into the montane meadows abundant with ponds, lakes, and granite outcroppings.

When you ultimately reach an intersection at Eklund Lake, turn right. From here, the Pole Creek Trail will begin to gently descend, passing Marys Lake down to the Pole Creek Lakes. Marvel at the beauty of the crystalline lakes and the scenes of the granite mountainscape. From here, turn around and retrace your footing back to the trailhead.
