Half Moon Trail Description

Offering a peaceful experience, the Half Moon Trail has remained relatively undiscovered. Enjoy the tranquility as you soak in the spellbinding views of the Winds from the shoreline of the crystalline glacial pool. As this route is lightly trafficked, there are areas of overgrowth, so come prepared to do some bushwhacking. Bring plenty of water and wear SPF as this route sees plenty of sun. Note that while unlikely, bear encounters are possible, so make sure at least one person in your party carries bear spray.

Embark on your adventure from the Moon Lake Lodge. Setting out from here, you will wander briefly along the Forest Service Road 114, heading east, before merging onto the Half Moon Trail. This lovely path will gently undulate along the shoreline, offering great views of Half Moon Mountain across the water in the south. Eventually, you will reach an intersection, keep right here, and the route will redirect you south, climbing away from the shoreline and up a ridge.

Enjoy the views from atop the ridge cloaked with sagebrush and pine tree stands, then continue along the path as it gradually descends towards Little Half Moon Lake and the trail’s end. From this point, simply turn around and retrace your footing back to the trailhead.
