Getting there

To get to the Helm Glacier trailhead from Whistler, head west on BC-99 S and turn left onto Cheakamus Lake Rd. Turn left to stay on Cheakamus Lake Road after 1476ft and follow it for another 4.3mi to reach the parking area. From here, you will need to hike out to the Helm Creek Campground in order to access the trailhead.

Helm Glacier Trail Description

The hike to Helm Glacier is a short 1.5mi out-and back route that can be completed as a quick excursion from Helm Creek Campground in Garibaldi Provincial Park. Hikers looking to utilize this trail will first need to make the trek to the backcountry campground in order to access the trailhead. This is a scenic route through a beautiful meadow that offers spectacular views of nearby mountains including Cinder Cone, Helm Peak, and the iconic Black Tusk. At the end of the trail, hikers will have views overlooking the frigid expanse of the Helm Glacier nestled amongst the peaks. Hiking on or around glaciers requires a lot of experience, so practice caution while in this area and do not get too close unless you are familiar with the terrain. This hike is a fantastic route if you are camping in the area and looking for a quick excursion away from camp.
