The Prior and Thetis Lake Loop will take you along an 5.0mi lollipop hiking route through a beautifully scenic stretch of West Coast temperate rainforest that features several charming lakes. Along the trail, you will be surrounded by a peaceful rainforest atmosphere, as you hike past moss-covered trees, bridged creek crossings, and cascading waterfalls. Some parts of this trail are a bit overgrown, so keep an eye on the GPS and follow the main trail unless you want to do some light bushwhacking.
Getting there
To reach the Prior and Thetis Lake Loop trailhead from Saanich, head northwest on BC-1 for 3.0mi and take exit 10 to merge onto Burnside Road W. After 1148ft, continue straight onto Island Highway, following it for 1640ft before turning right on Six Mile Road. In 0.7mi, turn left to enter the parking area.

Prior and Thetis Lakes Trail Description
Located within Thetis Lake Regional Park, the Prior and Thetis Lake Loop is a fun adventure through the rainforest that will provide some amazing scenery and the chance to explore some beautiful lakeside terrain. The trail sets out from the parking area and heads to the northeast through a dense network of routes that dissect the forested landscape. Make sure to bring a GPS or trail map, as sections of the trail are overgrown and can be a bit tricky to navigate. Follow the path through the moss-covered forest until you arrive at Prior Lake and the small dock that juts out across the water for some scenic views. Head to the northwest around the lake and continue along the trail as it turns to the south and meets up with Thetis Lake. Here, you will have an amazing sightline across an even bigger body of water with some nice views of the surrounding rainforest landscape. After exploring the trails along the edge of the lake, continue south on a route that will lead you back towards the trailhead where you began your hike.
