Route Description for Elk Lake

The Elk Lake walk is an enjoyable, lovely walk that takes you around Beaver Lake, through lush forested areas that eventually turns from Beaver Lake into Elk Lake.

From the Filter Beds Parking Lot, follow the Elk Lake Multiuse Trail around the two lakes, it doesn’t matter which direction you go, however for our map we went clockwise.

As you walk along Beaver Lake, you’ll look out on a pretty lake, fringed with evergreens. Dotted along the trail are clearings where you can stop and grab a break and sit on a bench or spread out a picnic blanket.

At the far northern end of the trail you’ll approach Water Ski Beach and the Brookleigh Road Parking Lot.

Continue along Elk Lake as the path trends to the east, soon arriving at Hamsterly Beach, which is a great place to stop for a swim or a picnic! There’s a small playground here if you’ve had the kids in the stroller and they have energy to burn. There are also washrooms nearby.

After Hamsterly Beach, the trail around Elk Lake runs close to the highway, but the trail travels back into nature once it reaches the Victoria City Rowing Club.

The trail will eventually loop back to the Filter Beds parking lot.

Insider Hints

  • You can park at any of the parking lots that are on the Elk Lake Trail, but the trail starting from Filter Beds Parking Lot offers a quieter start and end.

  • Bring a picnic for Hamsterly Beach, and on a hot day you can cool down with a dip in Elk Lake.

This place is simply charming! The lake, the wooden paths, the trees. They are perfectly placed and make a beautiful composition. It looks great in photos, but it's so much better in real life.

A gorgeous walking path. It was fairly flat with a few small uphills and rooty portions. Extremely well marked. So incredible!

Really cool place. Not bloody hard and beautiful! Can be crowded in the summer though. Great for trail running and a nice place to hike with friends and family!
