Christmas Meadows to Ostler Lake Description

The Christmas Meadows to Ostler Lake Trail is a fantastic route in the High Uinta Wilderness Area. This trail is an ambitious day hike, so if you plan to hike the whole route in one day, start early and bring a headlamp in case you find yourself finishing in the dark. There is drinking water available at the Christmas Meadows Campground at the trailhead, be sure to fill up your water bottle before hitting the trail. You will also want to pack lots of tasty snacks to fuel your adventure. The last thing you will want to bring on your hike is a camera; with incredible views at every turn, this trail is absolutely stunning.

From the Christmas Meadows Campground, head south along the Stillwater Trail that parallels Stillwater Fork. At the divide, approximately 2.4mi in, take the trail on your left and follow it south for 3.1mi. Look for a trail branching off to your right; when you see it, take this path west a short distance to the shores of Ostler Lake.

At Ostler Lake, enjoy a rest, go for a swim, or try your luck at fishing these pristine alpine waters. Then, when you’re ready to head home, simply turn around and retrace your steps back to the Christmas Meadows Campground where you began.
