The Falls of Glomach Walk in the Scottish Highlands is a remarkable journey that has you hillwalking towards stunning falls tumbling into a gorge. However, this walk is ranked as a level three walk, making it fun for those with some hillwalking experience and some background knowledge on these types of adventures. It’s also essential to note that you’ll come across a sign advising you not to proceed when you reach the falls. Therefore, you may not get the best views of the waterfall. However, those with experience tend to proceed with extreme caution to peer at the falls from a better vantage point.

Those who tackle this incredible excursion will undoubtedly fall in love with the mythical, supernatural-like views cloaking this entire walk that sees you traversing uphill through vibrant greenery while a valley, river, and the Munro—A Ghlas-bheinn—dominate the scenery. And then it gets even better when you reach the Falls of Glomach, which cascade 371ft into a gorge. Since this is an out-and-back route, you’ll get to revel in the same views twice!

Setting out from the National Trust for Scotland Morvich countryside centre, continue along the road, ensuring to stay left at the following two forks and the bridge at Innichro. After 230ft, you’ll reach a sign indicating a right turn. Initially, the path may be more technical and tough to navigate but soon smoothes out near Abhainn Chonaig (a dyke). A few kilometres later, go left at the fork to follow a path winding toward the river, which you’ll walk over by footbridge. After crossing, continue along the path until you reach a forest track. Take a right here! At the next fork, you’ll remain on the same side as the plantation, and when another track emerges on your left, be sure to stay right. Soon after, walk across a bridge over the small river and keep along the track toward another bridge. Crossing this bridge will take you to a path that climbs away from the forest. Get ready to head uphill!

As you ascend, stay to the left of the valley, admiring the river flowing below. Soon, the path will lead you across the narrow pass, where stunning views unravel. Notice the Munro, A Ghlas-bheinn, soaring above. These views provide the ultimate distraction as you continue along the undulating path.

When you start descending, you’ll know that you’re getting closer to the Falls of Glomach! Keep walking until you reach the sign advising the dangers of proceeding onward. However, this is where most walkers (with experience) continue with extreme caution to catch a glimpse of the falls from a better vantage point. The view of the falls leaping through the gorge makes for a fantastic image. But please remember to only continue past the sign if you’re confident in your footing and take it slow. Some advanced walkers even descend a steep path to Glen Elchaig, but don’t do this if you aren’t confident and lack the experience.

To get back to your car, turn around at the falls and follow the same path back, as this is an out-and-back route.
