Hite Cove Road Hike

The Hite Cove Road is a scenic adventure that would make a great addition to your hiking itinerary if you don’t mind sharing the road with off-roaders. When hiking in the off-season, you will likely be alone. However, you must be aware of passers-by in the summer months, especially if you are hiking with pets and children. When walking in the winter months, be sure to strap on pair of snowshoes or microspikes! Pack plenty of water, and wear sun protection to avoid overexposure.

Your journey along the Hite Cove Road Hike begins at the end of Scott’s Road. From here, the Hite Cove Road will guide you north, along a gravel road through a small community of cabins before entering the forestlands. Soon the route will transform into a rough dirt road adorned with granite outcrops. At this point, the path will climb intensely before dipping down towards the rim of the South Fork Merced River Valley. Enjoy the mixed pines’ shade and the vibrant wildflowers’ sights as you meander the shared route. Eventually, you will meet the trail’s end at the Savage-Lundy Trailhead.

From here, you will be granted impressive views of the mountainous wilderness and the river valley below. If you have some gas left in the tank, feel free to explore the Savage-Lundy Trail. If not, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead, marking the end of your adventure.
