Old Ski Bowl Trail Description
The Old Ski Bowl Trail is an awesome adventure worth adding to your Shasta-Trinity National Forests itinerary. This epic excursion travels along the southern slope of the famous Mount Shasta, giving you a taste of what a summit adventure entails without the sweat. Note the terrain is loose rocks, so wear a sturdy pair of footwear to safeguard your ankles. Unfortunately, dogs are not permitted along this route, so they’ll have to sit out this adventure. Additionally, the path is entirely exposed, so be sure to check the forecast and dress accordingly.
Setting out from the Old Ski Bowl Trailhead, this hike travels northwest along the Old T Bar Top Access Trail. Traveling into the old ski bowl, you will be granted views of Mount Shasta and Shastarama Point looming in the north. Soon after you leave the trailhead, you will graduate the timberline, wandering through the alpine tundra abundant with wildflowers in the summer months. As you climb, the terrain will become steeper and more technical—take your time and mind your footing.
You will eventually reach the route’s end at an intersection with the Green Butte Trail. Here you will be rewarded with panoramic vistas of the mountainous landscape. Revel in the grandeur of the terrain, and when you are ready, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
