Bear Lakes Hike Description

The Bear Lakes Hike is awaiting the exploration of intrepid spirits and experienced hikers. Expect to travel through various topographies, which demand the navigation of technical terrain with confusing intersections; therefore, we recommend packing a trail GPS. Additionally, we encourage hikers to wear a sturdy pair of footwear and to dress in layers. Note this route travels through the bear country—so be mindful of wildlife. Don’t forget to charge your camera; the scenery is picture perfect!

Setting out from the trailhead off Bear Lake Creek Loop, the Bear Lakes Hike loops around the Bear Lakes Trail over Bear Creek before rerouting northwestwardly. This path will guide you along Bear Creek through the forested valley. Gradually climbing through the high country, the route will curve west, climbing more intensely to Big Bear Lake. Marvel in the beauty of the crystalline lake bounded by granite cliffs. Here you will also be granted distant views of Mount Shasta from the exposed terrain. From here, hike south up to Little Bear Lake and then down to Wee Bear Lake. Explore the shores of the charming alpine lakes, and then loop back up to Big Bear Lake.

This is a great spot to rest and rehydrate before beginning your return. Then, when you are ready, retrace your footing along Bear Lakes Trail, all the way back to the trailhead.
