Potwisha Campground Trail Description

Those seeking a short, relaxing day hike will enjoy this route. Often trafficked by campers staying across the road in the Potwisha Campground, you can enjoy a more tranquil experience in the early mornings. Unfortunately, the path is not well-signposted, so we encourage you to download the trail GPS before heading out. There is plenty of exposed terrain though forested, so wear SPF and sun protection. Note entrance to the park costs $35USD per vehicle or $20USD per person for pedestrians or cyclists.

Setting out from the trailhead, the Potwisha Campground Trail travels south, steeply climbing up to the footbridge over Kaweah Valley. Enjoy the river valley scene, and continue along the route to the junction; keep left here and loop around the detour above the canyon. Veer left at the following intersection, and you will be rerouted southwest, traveling along the rocky terrain through the mixed conifers.

As you wander, enjoy the scene of the towering granite monoliths that frame the canyon. Though the primitive route continues, we chose to turn around after the trail curves southeast. At this point, simply retrace your footing back to the trailhead.
