The hot springs are located just a few short steps away from the parking lot, enabling its accessibility to hikers of all skill levels and ages. Head out on a brisk day and warm up in one of the three natural pools. Note the first tub is the warmest; the source of the hot springs feeds this pool. No matter the basin you enjoy, those who get too hot can hop into the Kern River to cool off—just don’t forget to pack a towel to dry off!

Your journey along the Miracle Hot Springs Trail begins from the parking lot off Kern Canyon Road. Here you will also find the Hobo Campground, which is a great spot to camp, allowing you the opportunity to head out in the early morning to enjoy the springs before anyone else does! After parking, find the trailhead at the western end of the lot. Setting out from here, you will be guided northwest along the dirt path bound by mixed conifers on one side and the Kern River on the other. Boasting the perfect opportunity for birding, you will likely notice birds soaring above or decorating the tree branches.

Continue wandering, and you will ultimately reach the trail’s end at the Miracle Hot Springs. Hope off the route and set up shop along the rocky banks of Kern River. Sun yourself along the river and soak in the natural springs. Though not the original baths, these tubs were recently reconstructed with unique stonework. Admire the beauty of the encompassing landscape as you treat yourself to a spa day in the wilderness. When you are finished enjoying the springs, head back to the parking lot the way you came.

The Miracle Hot Springs, previously known as the Hobo Hot Springs, is a collection of natural hot springs on the Kern River. The original baths have been removed and replaced with three tubs of unique stonework, though the baths remain primitive, maintaining the natural ambiance. Each pool typically measures at a different temperature—the first tub is where the source of the hot springs comes out and is usually about 106 °F. The second pool measures at about 103 °F, and the last at 100 °F. Next time you find yourself in the area, be sure to take a plunge in these warm pools. Note the custom is clothing optional.
