Long Lake via Bishop Pass Trail Description

Straddling the boundary between Inyo National Forest and the Kings Canyon National Park, this stunning alpine adventure is several underrated. A hidden gem relative to nearby treks, the Long Lake via Bishop Pass Trail reveals some of the best scenery in the state, in our opinion. Enjoy expansive views of the surrounding Sierra Nevada summits from any point on the trail. Just make sure to check the forecast and head out before noon to mitigate getting caught in an afternoon storm which is so common to the area.

Embark on your adventure along the Long Lake via Bishop Pass Hike from the Bishop Pass Trailhead. Setting out from here, you will be led south, climbing through the rocky terrain above South Lake. Admire the views of the crystalline lake below and continue your trek south. Not long after your departure will you reach an intersection; keep left here. The further you ascend into the High Sierra, the better will the views become.

Following the Bishop Pass Trail, you will pass by Bull Lake before summiting the ridge to Long Lake. Revel in the beauty of the narrow alpine pool bound by Chocolate Peak in the east and Hurd Peak in the west. After admiring the breathtaking scenery, head back the way you came.
