Hyndman Creek Hike Description
If a summit ascent still seems out of reach, why not test the waters on this scenic trail? This beautiful route explores a diversity of landscapes, exhibiting a diversity of flora and fauna and the grandeur of the Pioneer Mountains. While this route is easier than the Hyndman Peak Hike, it does demand quite a bit of endurance, so bring plenty of water and come prepared to do some climbing! Note that much of the terrain is exposed to the elements, so check the forecast before departure and wear sun protection!
Setting out from the trailhead, the Hyndman Creek Trail travels northeastwardly, crossing the North Fork of Hyndman Creek into the grasslands occupied with sagebrush and a variety of low-lying brush and vibrant wildflowers. Tracing the curves of the forested creek, this path will alternate between exposed meadows and shaded tree stands. After some hiking, you will be redirected northwardly—beyond this point, the terrain becomes more exposed, and the incline intensifies. Taking your time and minding your footing on the rocky terrain, views of the towering mountains will unfold before your eyes.
Soon you will be rerouted east, climbing into the mountain basin. The views of Hyndman Peak, Old Hyndman Peak, and Cobb Peak will render you speechless. Admire the grandeur and beauty of the looming craggy crests and explore the rocky cirque. Snap a few photos of this majestic scene, then retrace your steps back down to the trailhead.
