Heart Lake Hike Description

Hike into the White Cloud Mountains and enjoy a refreshing swim as you wander the Heart Lake Trail. This easy-going adventure meanders through burn scar that is lush with regrowth and a lively creek. As you hike, don’t forget to keep an eye out for the burned tree adorned with a carved heart! While the vegetation is thriving, some felled trees may still impede the path, and the exposure can prove challenging for some. Note this pleasant trail also demands some creek crossings, but they are small and usually easy to hop over with the help of a rock or log!

Your fun family hike begins from the trailhead off the Fourth of July Creek Road. Setting out from here, the trail track southwardly, almost immediately intersecting with the Fourth of July Creek. Beyond this point, the route will hug the curves of Heart Creek, gently climbing through burn scar adorned with blossoming undergrowth. Mind your footing on the rocks and roots that obstruct the path and enjoy the sounds of the gurgling creek. After some hiking, the flora will become more profuse, and you will eventually crest the northern shoreline.

The sights of the pine-ringed turquoise lake bound by the craggy ridges of Washington Peak will render you speechless. Admire the gorgeous scenery and dip your toes into the inviting waters. When ready to get back to the trailhead, simply retrace your footing.
