The Willow Heights Overview Trail is a beautiful, moderately challenging hike through the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. This is a great hike for viewing wildlife such as deer, porcupines and woodpeckers. We highly recommend heading out on this trail in the early fall to see the aspen trees lining this trail dressed in yellow and gold.

Willow Heights Overview Trail Description

The Willow Heights Overview Trail is a gorgeous forest walk just east of Salt Lake City. This may be a relatively short trail, but be sure to bring along lots of water and a snack to enjoy on the bench at the overlook. This trail winds through the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache Forest to a stunning viewpoint. Wildlife can often be seen crossing this trail, including moose, deer, and porcupines. If you are lucky enough to catch sight of these critters, do not feed them and be sure to give them lots of space.

From the trailhead, follow the path northwest as it curves its way up Willow Heights. You will eventually reach a bench with an incredible view of the forest below.

This bench marks the official turn-around point for this trail. If you are down to explore more, you can continue along the trail to do a short loop around Willow Lake. As it is a watershed, swimming is not permitted in Willow Lake but it can still be a lovely addition to your hike.
