Lookout Peak Description

Lookout Peak is a low-traffic, highly underrated hike in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest that can be found east of Salt Lake City. This trail is consistently steep all the way to the summit, so proper footwear and lots of water is essential, and hiking poles are highly recommended. Head out on this hike early in the day to beat the heat, as this trail has very little shade along the path and gets baked in the afternoon sun. As you make your way to the top of Lookout Peak, the views from the trail just keep getting better and better. At the summit, you will be able to see Salt Lake City far to the east, the Wasatch Range to the North and the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache Forest stretching out before you.

From the trailhead at Affleck Campground, follow the path north, then west along the Burnt Flat Trail. At the four-way trail intersection, take the path on your right to head north. Approximately 1.7mi past the intersection, the trail will divide in two. Take the path on the left to hike the final stretch to the summit.

Take a well-deserved rest atop Lookout Peak and admire the views of the valleys below and the peaks beyond. When you are ready to head home, simply follow the same route back out to the trailhead.
