The Lake Solitude Trail is a relatively easy hike through a beautiful, lush area of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. This hike is family-friendly and a great place to see forest wildlife such as moose, chipmunks, and deer. We recommend heading out on this trail in July to see the forest wildflowers in full bloom.

Lake Solitude Trail Description

Not to be confused with the challenging and epic Lake Solitude Trail in Wyoming, the Lake Solitude Trail in Utah is a lovely, family-friendly stroll to a beautiful alpine vista. Despite the name, this is not the trail to seek solitude. The Lake Solitude Trail is one of the most popular hikes in the region, with tons of locals and tourists heading up every weekend; we recommend heading out early in the day to beat the crowds. Despite its popularity, this trail is a great place to see wildlife. Moose, deer, and other critters are commonly seen along this trail. If you see these critters, remember not to feed the animals and give them lots of personal space.

There is a reason that this hike is so popular with people and critters. The lush forest and pristine alpine lake have a magnetic beauty. Though this trail is truly gorgeous all year round, we recommend heading out in July to catch the wildflowers in full bloom. Alternatively, try this trail in the fall as the aspen trees turn to shades of yellow and carpet the ground with their falling leaves of gold.

From the trailhead, follow the Silver Lake Interpretive Trail as it loops around Silver Lake. At the top of the lake, the trail will divide, take a right onto the Solbright Trail and follow the path northwest for 0.3mi to the next divide. Take a left at this divide to follow the Kruzr Trail as it arcs northwest to southwest for 0.4mi to the next divide. Take another left at this divide to follow the Lake Solitude Trail a short distance to the Lake itself.

Follow the trail as it loops around Lake Solitude and enjoy your time in this beautiful spot before following the same path back to the Silver Lake Visitor Center where you began.
If you are wanting to do more in the area, this hike can be extended by heading over to the Twin Lakes Reservoir to the south.
