Pima Wash Trail to West Loop Description

The Pima Wash Trail to West Loop hike is an easy, family-friendly trail in the far northeastern corner of Phoenix’s South Mountain Preserve, one of the most popular urban hiking areas in the city. This trail is easy enough for all ages and skill levels. Expect hikers, dogs, and mountain bikers on busy weekends. As always, look out for one another and share the trail.

Should you visit this trail outside of peak times, please be aware that multiple users report seeing or hearing coyotes near the trail. While they generally won’t come near when the trail is busy, remember that dogs must be kept on leash on this trail, and it’s especially wise to keep dogs close to you when the trail is less busy. Additionally, bring water with you on this hike.

From the trailhead, take National Trail as it travels along the base of the ridge to your left. Continue straight through the first junction. Near the old stone houses, take a minute to relax, enjoy the view, and explore the structures. These mark the turnaround point, so look for Pima Wash Trail traveling along Pima Wash in the direction of the trailhead. Continue on this route back to where you started.
