Apache Wash Trail Description

Apache Wash Trail is a relaxed 6.5mi hike north of Phoenix, Arizona. This route follows a similar course as the Apache Wash Loop Trail, but adds length by following the wash up to Carefree Highway. This hike is a great choice for families, beginners, or anyone interested in a chilled-out stroll through Sonoran Desert scenery. It’s also a popular choice for mountain bikers. With saguaro, barrel cactus, and wildlife to see, you’ll feel more removed from the city than you actually are.

While this might be an easy trail, remember to always bring water with you while you hike in the desert. Consider wearing sun protection no matter what time of year it is and aim to hike outside of the heat of the afternoon if high temperatures are forecasted. The signage on this hike is good.

This route goes clockwise. Begin by hedging to your left on Apache Wash/Ocotillo Trail. Where Sidewinder cuts through, continue straight on Apache Wash Trail. Follow this along the wash until the highway, where you’ll bear right and then take a sharper turn to head back towards the trailhead. Continue through the wash on the same route until you’re back at the starting point.
