Monsal Head and Wydale Circular Trail Description

While parts of the Monsal Head and Wydal Circular will be extremely busy during the summertime, the majority of the route will be a pleasant stroll through the forests and dales that line the banks of the winding River Wye. Setting out from Monsal Head, follow the trail west as it descends towards the river to begin the scenic walk through the dale. Cross over the flowing water and take in the tranquil riverside atmosphere, as you walk along the edge of the water that skirts around Fin Cop towards Great Shacklow Wood. Make your way east to pass through the village of Ashford in the Water before continuing on to the edge of the town of Bakewell. Here, you will leave the river behind and chart a course to the north to cut across the open farmland and meet up with the busy portion of the route along the Monsal Trail. Take this to the west and follow it back to Monsal Head where you began.
