Walking the Derwent Moors Circular Walk is a rugged and exciting journey through the bleak moorland terrain of the Peak District National Park. While out on the trail, you will walk through the soggy, barren landscape of the moor and in return you will receive some amazing views overlooking the hills and reservoirs of the Derwent Valley. This is a fun adventure through a unique landscape that the whole family can enjoy.

Getting there

To reach the trailhead for the Derwent Moors Circular from Bamford, drive north on Ashopton Road for 1.9mi and turn right on the A57. After 1.8mi, turn left onto Mortimer Road and follow it for 0.5mi to find a layby on the left. From here, continue on foot along the track to the southwest for 0.5mi to arrive at the trailhead next to a junction.

Derwent Moors Trail Description

Although the journey into the trailhead requires you to travel on foot for an extra 0.5mi, once you are on the Derwent Moors Circular Trail you will be inundated with spectacular views that sweep across the Peak District. Setting out from the trailhead, the path heads west along the rugged terrain of the moor and climbs uphill until you arrive at Derwent Edge. From this elevated lookout, you will have some amazing views overlooking the Upper Derwent Valley and the Ladybower Reservoir Below. From here, descend the hillside to the southwest and follow the trail as it turns east to travel through Ladybower wood. Then, you will climb uphill along Ladybower Brook until you arrive back at the trailhead where you began the walk.
