Kirkbymoorside and Ravenswick Walk Description
While the Kirkbymoorside and Ravenswick Walk isn’t really all that challenging of a route, there are a few steep parts and sections of trail in the forest that can become quite muddy. Be sure to wear proper walking footwear for the conditions.
While it isn’t quite located within North York Moors National Park, this walk is so close to the edge and features some pleasant terrain and local history, so it might as well be included. The trail will lead you through Kirkbymoorside and allow you to explore the town before cutting across the picturesque countryside to pass by the site of Ravenswick Hall, a country house that is being fully rebuilt. From here, you will pass through some tranquil forests and traverse some more fields on the return leg of the walk. What a lovely way to spend an afternoon!
Setting out from the car park, make your way to the southeast along Market Place for 0.1mi and enjoy the views along the street, before turning left onto Howe End. Keep on for 425.0mi and round the corner to the right, where you will find a footpath branching off to the left. Take this to begin climbing up the hillside, traversing the open terrain and walking along the edge of tranquil woods for the next 0.7mi to arrive at the edge of the road. Turn left and follow Young Bank Lane for 0.4mi, as it passes by Ravenswick Hall, a former country house that is being rebuilt from the ground up and will be the first new major country house built in Yorkshire in the last 200 years.
Shortly after entering into the forest, turn left along the track and follow it west for 0.3mi to eventually meet up with Back of Parks Road. Turn right and follow the road for 0.2mi, turning left on the lane to continue west. Keep straight along the lane for 0.8mi and turn right to make your way past the remains of Neville Castle to pick the trail up at the end of the road. Follow this for 0.5mi and make a sharp left to turn back to the south along the edge of the golf club. Continue on for 0.6mi and turn left onto Dale End, following it back to the car park where you began the Kirkbymoorside and Ravenswick Walk.
