The Hutton-le-Hole and Lastingham Walk is a great adventure in North York Moors National Park that provides a great insight into the landscape of the region. While out on the trail, you will make your way through several steep climbs along the moor and pass through charming villages before traversing some picturesque fields populated with sheep. While this does make for a fun family adventure, some of the climbs might not be suitable for younger children.
Getting there
To access the trailhead for the Hutton-le-Hole and Lastingham Walk from Kirkbymoorside, head east on New Road/A170 for 0.8mi and turn left to continue on for 0.2mi. Keep straight onto Gray Lane for 2.6mi and turn right onto Moor Lane. After 435ft, turn right to enter the car park.

If you are looking to experience the North York Moors packaged into one relatively short adventure, then you will want to give the Hutton-le-Hole and Lastingham Walk a try. Located near the south of North York Moors National Park, you will experience the striking moorland terrain, sprawling fields, and charming villages that make this region so beautiful. Don’t forget to wear proper walking boots, as some of the terrain here can be uneven underfoot.
Setting out from the car park, you will make your way south through the village of Hutton-le-Hole, before heading to the northeast through the open countryside. After a brief spell along the road, you will climb slightly uphill across the moor and take in the beautiful views of the rugged terrain surrounding you.
Reaching the northeasternmost point of the route, you will turn to the south to pass through the charming village of Lastingham, eventually climbing up the forested hillside to reach Spaunton. From here, you will make your way west across the picturesque fields before making your descent off the hillside back into Hutton-le-Hole.
