The Eastside Trail is a 8.8mi lightly trafficked trail in Mount Rainier National Park that provides access to Deer Creek Camp and is rated as moderate. This trail is a nice nature walk on its own, but this particular arm is most often used to reach Deer Creek Camp for backpacking trips. The trail meanders along Chinook Creek underneath two peaks, making for a peaceful trip.
Getting there
The trailhead for this arm of the Eastside Trail is located off Mather Memorial Parkway right above Upper Tipsoo Lake.

Eastside Trail to Deer Creek Camp Description
The hike to Deer Creek Camp on Eastside trail is a beautiful one, flanked by a peak on either side and following along a babbling creek. The trail begins above Upper Tipsoo Lake, where you’ll take the Eastside Trail to wind around the road, cross Chinook Creek, and then follow the creek into the forest.
You’ll cross Mather Memorial Parkway one more time before heading along the creek into the valley between Seymour and Buell peaks. There is some moderate elevation gain to contend with on this hike, but the trail climbs mostly gradually as you approach Deer Creek Camp. If you’re hiking this as an out and back, simply retrace your steps to Tipsoo.
