Noble Knob Trail is a moderate hike, with 6.9mi of distance and 1247ft of elevation gain. It’s easy enough for kids and beginners, but it doesn’t compromise on views. In wildflower season it’s covered in lupine, and the views of Mount Rainier are enjoyable in all seasons. This route offers the chance to take a side trip up Mutton Mountain if you want to add a bit to your adventure.

Noble Knob Trail Description

Noble Knob is a worthwhile knob to climb, with nice views of Mount Rainier attainable without too much hard work. This hike is also great in early summer when the lupine blooms. Part of the trail is recovering from a forest fire, but it doesn’t detract much from the experience.

The hike begins from the parking lot, heading straight north across Deep Creek. The trail to Mutton Mountain will be on your right, and this is a brief enough jaunt if you want to make the side trip. Otherwise, continue on to a junction, where you’ll keep right.

Reaching a three-way fork in the trail, take the middle path. Here you’ll make the final ascent to the top of the Knob, where the views are fantastic (but the mosquitoes are determined).

When you’re ready, retrace your steps back to the trailhead.

Insider Hints

  • The road to the trailhead is a bit rough, so we recommend a capable vehicle. We also recommend bug spray.
