Lake Elizabeth Trail is more of a walk on the road to a gorgeous lake than a hike, but this is the ideal path for those who don’t want too much of a challenge, don’t want to route find, and prefer a nice even walking surface. It’s family-friendly and simple, and the lake is a pretty spot for a picnic.

You can hike this trail in the winter, but we’d recommend bringing snowshoes if you have them.

Lake Elizabeth Trail Description

Lake Elizabeth Trail is about as even and easy to follow as it gets. This route follows a forest road all the way to the lake, meaning you get an uncomplicated, simple walk. You could drive to the lake, but this is a nice option for a bit of fresh air. Watch for passing cars as you walk.

While there is a marked trailhead for this route, you can park as close or far from the lake as you prefer to tailor your distance to your needs. If you want more of a walk, park further back, and if not, park closer to the lake to cut down on elevation gain and distance.

From where you park, simply follow the road towards the lake. It’s gravel, gains some elevation gradually, and is extremely easy to follow. Enjoy the trees, the solitude, and the birds as you walk. There is one section where two wide switchback turns gain the most elevation at once, but it’s still very manageable.

The trail continues around the entire lake, so you can loop the whole shore if you wish. When you’re ready, follow the road back to where you parked.
