Cover waterfalls, lakes, and dense forest on the Geraldine Lakes Trail. The 7.3mi out-and-back route is a great half-day hike near Jasper. It is a bucket-list trail in Jasper National Park, so make sure to check it off. This is a great trail to some superb mountain lakes that don’t see the large number of visitors that drive-up lakes in the area do.

Geraldine Lakes Trail Description

The Geraldine Lakes Trail will take you to both lakes; however, some hikers choose to visit only the first one. Luckily this is a good landmark if you decide you would like a shorter trail. Yet, the distance between the two is worth it and features multiple waterfalls that add a whimsical feeling to this trail.

From the parking lot, follow the straightforward trail uphill towards the lower Geraldine Lake. The forest here is dense and peaceful and opens up, revealing the lake after 1.1mi. Follow the trail along the shore to the first waterfall. After the first waterfall, you will reach a 295ft climb that might seem a bit steep compared to the rest of the trail.

Atop the climb, you will find yourself in a boulder field for the next 0.9mi of the trail. Pass the boulders and find yourself at the more impressive second waterfall. Another climb follows the waterfall for 492ft, but be sure to take your time and turn around for incredible vistas. You’ll come across some more boulders before finding the second Geraldine Lake and accompanying backcountry campground.

Enjoy a rest at the picnic tables and fire pit provided by the campground before heading back to the parking lot.
