The Wapiti Trail is a beautiful way to see the Athabasca River and connect the campground to town. If you are staying at Wapiti, you can’t skip this route! It follows an easy path along the Athabasca River with benches and viewpoints galore.

Getting there

To get to the Wapiti Trail from Jasper, join the 93N from Connaught Drive and head southbound until you reach Wapiti Campground on the left hand side of the road. Pull onto the campground access road, where you will cross the Wapiti Trail. Park at the campground.

Wapiti Trail Description

From the campground, join the obvious path that crosses the campground access road. Head northbound and parallel the highway for roughly 1.2mi. You will be hiking between the 93N and the Athabasca River. After 1.2mi, the trail begins to curve towards the Athabasca River and ultimately the Town of Jasper.

Pass the Alpine Village before reaching a drinking water station at 1.9mi. In 1640ft, you will cross the Athabasca River on a bridge that takes you to the Tekarra Lodge. Pass by a small pond and continue on towards town to finish your hike.
