South Landing Trail Description

Explore the forested shoreline of the picturesque Jackson Lake on the South Landing Trail. This mildly undulating route boasts perfect birding and wildlife viewing opportunities—just make sure at least one person in your party carries a can of bear spray and knows how to properly use it. Don’t forget to charge your camera; the views of the snow-dusted Teton Mountains rising above the mirroring lake are quite photogenic! Though not always necessary, we encourage hikers to bring along some bug spray as the route is sometimes clouded with mosquitos. Note the Grand Teton National Park charges an entrance fee; refer to the NPS website for additional information.

Setting out from the Signal Mountain Lodge, the South Landing Trail heads south to a wonderful overlook of Jackson Lake. Appreciate the postcard perfect panorama, then continue south along the path, tracing the shoreline. Meandering through the lush lodgepole woodlands and the exposed shoreline, you will be granted a variety of views worthy of a few photos. Keep an eye out for wildlife as you trek.

You will ultimately reach your turnaround point when the route diverted inland to the Landing Lagoon. From here, simply head back the way you came to the trailhead.
