Leigh Lake Trail Description

The Leigh Lake Hike is a wonderful adventure that the whole family can enjoy. Wander along the shoreline of one shimmering alpine lake to another—what more could you ask for? Treating you to mountain views and a diversity of flora and fauna, not much can top this trek! Like all other hikes in the Grand Tetons, we encourage you or someone in your party to bring a can of bear spray—just in case! Don’t forget a swimsuit and towel in case you want to cool off in the waters! Note the Grand Teton National Park charges an entrance fee; check out the NPS website for additional information.

Embark on your journey from the Leigh Lake Trailhead. Setting out from here, you will be guided northeast along the String Lake Trail. This lovely path is flat and accessible to strollers and wheelchairs until the intersection with the Leigh Lake Trail. When you ultimately reach the junction, veer right onto the Leigh Lake Trail and climb up to the shoreline. Admire the beauty of Mount Moran looming above the glacial lake and continue your trek. Weaving between wooded corridors and exposed meadows, you will be granted views of the shimmering lake and the diversity of flora and fauna.

After passing a few campsites, Mystic Isle will come into view. You will ultimately reach the path’s end at the junction with the Bear Paw and Trapper Lake Trails. From here, turnaround and retrace your steps along the path back to the trailhead.
