Colter Bay Hermitage Point Trail

The Colter Bay Hermitage Point Trail boasts an enchanting experience. This lovely hike explores the low-lying areas of the Teton National Park, offering impressive views of the famous craggy peaks from Hermitage Point. Similar to most hikes in the national park, bear encounters are possible. Make sure at least one person in your group has a can of bear spray and knows how to use it. Additionally, if you have a wildlife encounter, keep your distance and do not make sudden movements. Note the Grand Teton National Park charges an entrance fee; refer to the NPS website for additional information.

Embark on your hike along the Colter Bay Hermitage Point Trail from the trailhead off Cottonwood Way near the Colter Bay Marina. Setting you from here, track the rightmost branch of the Hermitage Point Trail, tracking southward. Staying on this route through the junctions, you will be guided through vast meadows, shaded tree stands, and along the shoreline of Jackson Bay and Heron Pond. As you hike, be mindful of wildlife such as moose, bears, waterfowl, and more. Eventually, the path will reach Hermitage Point, which boasts wonderful views of the snow-dusted Teton Mountains commanding the skyline.

Enjoy the scenery; then, the Hermitage Point Trail will redirect you northwardly, along the Snake River and back into the woodlands. Eventually, passing Swan Lake, which is subject to wildlife closure during swan nesting, this route will ultimately deliver you back to the trailhead.
