The Triple Bar and OT Hike Description
The Triple Bar and OT Trail is a scenic family friendly adventure through grassy meadows. Enjoy stunning vistas of the mountains that line the horizon and the encompassing rocky Colorado landscape. Keep an eye out for horseback riders, as this is a shared trail. The path, though lovely, is exposed. There is no tree shade, so avoid hiking on hot sunny summer days or layer on the sunscreen. Shaped in a figure-eight, this trail will guide you along different scenery every step of the way. If you do get hot, the Cache La Poudre River is a great place to cool down at the halfway mark.
The Triple Bar and OT Hike can be completed in either direction, but we prefer going clockwise. Head left on the Triple Bar Trail to start your adventure. Hike along the meadow and be prepared to do a bit of bushwhacking- the path is slightly overgrown in sections. Continue along the trail as it guides you southwest towards the Cache La Poudre River. At this point, the trail will merge briefly with the other section of the Triple Bar Trail as you walk the bridge. Cross the river and veer left on the OT Trail.
Hike this meadowed route along the riverbank. At the next intersection, stay right on the OT Trail. The path will guide you west then curve you east as it loops around. Take the trail over the bridge once again and cross the river. At this point you will want to stay left and hike back on the other branch of the Triple Bar Trail. Hike the northern Triple Bar Trail all the way back to the parking lot.
