A'Ah Lava Trail Description
The A’Ah Lava Trail is a quick and simple trail that leads you over the black volcanic rock left over from a volcanic eruption in years past. The Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument is an area filled with craters, volcanic rock, and dormant volcanoes, and this little piece of it is a fun way to experience the unique landscape if you’re short on time.
The loop begins and ends at the trailhead with no junctions to consider. If you look to the east, you can see Sunset Crater, the namesake of the park. We’d recommend hiking in closed-toed shoes as the volcanic rock can be rough and sharp, but otherwise, this is a fast and straightforward hike.
