Kingswear to Paignton is a fantastic adventure along the South Devon coast that will offer some stunning views across the English Channel. While out on the trail, you will walk along the rugged coastline before passing through the seaside areas of Brixham and Paignton. There are quite a few ups and downs along this route, so be prepared for a bit of a leg burn.

Getting there

To get to the South West Coast Path: Kingswear to Paignton trailhead from the Dartmouth Museum, head north on The Quay for 0.2mi and make a sharp right onto N Embankment/B3205. Follow this for 0.3mi and take the ferry across to arrive at the trailhead in Kingswear.

Kingswear to Paignton Trail Description

Traversing a beautiful stretch of the Devon shoreline, the South West Coast Path: Kingswear to Paignton offers walkers a nice mixture of natural and urban walking paths in order to fully appreciate the beauty of the seaside landscape. Make sure to wear sturdy walking boots, as this route features a number of climbs and descents into the various coves that line the coast, making for a fun – if exhausting – day on the trails.

Setting out from the trailhead in Kingswear, you will head to the southeast and enjoy scenic views of Dartmouth Castle across the water, before continuing onto the Brownstone Battery atr Froward Point. From here, the trail will head to the northeast around Pudcombe Cove, passing by several beaches and the Sharkham Point Nature Reserve on the way into Brixham. After passing through this charming seaside town, you will continue north and enjoy some beautifully scenic views of the English Channel, as you make your way along the final leg of the walk into Paignton.
