The Western Beacon Circular Walk is a pleasant stroll through the Devon countryside that will lead you over several hills for scenic views of the surrounding landscape. While out walking the trail, you will climb up the steep slopes of Western Beacon and traverse Butterdon Hill before making your way back across the hillscape for a return along a rail line. The varying terrain and nice views along this route make for a great way to spend a few hours outdoors.

Getting there

To reach the trailhead for the Western Beacon Circular Walk from the centre of Ivybridge, head east on Exeter Road/B3213 for 0.7mi and turn left. After 0.1mi, make another left to arrive at the car park.

Western Beacon Circular Walk Description

Walking the Western Beacon Circular Trail is a great way to spend an afternoon outdoors in the Devon countryside, as you will be able to experience the hilly terrain and picturesque views that can be found along the southern edge of Dartmoor National Park. Setting out from the trailhead, you will make your way past the Ivybridge rail station and briefly head south before turning to the north to climb the steep slopes of Western Beacon. While enjoying the sweeping views of the surrounding landscape, you will continue north along the undulating terrain to traverse Butterdon Hill before following the trail as it bends to the south. Here, you will once again make your way across the hillside to make your descent into Ivybridge. When you reach the rail line, follow it east to return to the trailhead.
