Lakehead Hill and Bellever Tor Circular Walk Description

Walking the Lakehead Hill and Bellever Tor Circular Trail is a lovely adventure in Dartmoor National Park that can be completed by just about anyone; however, there is a bit of uphill walking that might slow less-mobile travellers. Additionally, there are a few fairly steep descents along some rugged terrain, so be sure to wear good walking shoes for the journey. Other than these losses and gains in elevation, the trail is very easy to navigate and should make for a fun day outdoors.

Setting out from the car park, you will first need to make your way across the road and pick up the trail that leads to the southwest through the forest. From here, you will break out of the tree cover and arrive at Kraps Ring, the site of a small settlement dating back thousands of years to the Bronze Age. Continue along the trail to begin the climb uphill across the summits of Lakehead Hill and Bellever Tor, passing by several other ancient sites, including a hillfort atop the tor. Take some time to appreciate the sweeping views of Dartmoor National Park before descending the hillside to the northeast to pass through the village of Bellever. After a brief detour to visit a 13th Century clapper bridge along the East Dart River, you will backtrack a short distance and head to the northwest on the final leg of the walk back to the car park.
