Brent Tor Walk Description

The Brent Tor Walk may only be a short journey of 1.1mi, but it offers some lovely views overlooking the surrounding Dartmoor National Park landscape and the chance to visit an historic church located on the hilltop. The route does traverse the rugged and rocky hillside of Brent Tor, so be sure to wear sturdy walking shoes for the best footing. Additionally, arrive early for this walk, as the car park is limited.

Setting out from the car park, you will head to the east and pass by the toilet facilities, crossing over the road to begin the uphill portion of the walk. Keep left at the fork and work your way around the north and east slopes of the hill to eventually climb up the south side on the approach to the church. Here, you can explore the charming site of the Church of Saint Michael de Rupe (Saint Michael of the Rock), a lovely stone building that dates back to the 13th Century. After taking in the local history and superb views, make your way down the rocky hillside to the northwest to pass by the remains of an Iron Age hillfort on the way back to the car park where you began your adventure.
