Morrell Cabin Trail Description

The Morrell Cabin Trail is a short and easy hike to a National Historic Site. The road to the trailhead is seldom maintained and can only be accessed with a high-clearance vehicle. Four-wheel drive is recommended. The trail leading to the Morrell Cabin is flat and well marked, making this is a great hike for families with young kids. The Morrell Cabin itself was originally built in the 1920s by a man named Paul Christensen who ran a sawmill on Lake Creek. Christensen sold the cabin to the Morrell Family who relocated it to Cathedral Valley in 1935. After its relocation, the Morrells used the cabin as a winter camp for their ranching operation until they sold the cabin to the National Park Service in 1970. The cabin was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. Please respect this piece of Americana—do not leave any graffiti or garbage along this trail.

From the trailhead, follow the path west to the Morrell Cabin.

Peek through the windows and imagine what life must have been like living way out here back in the day. Check out the remains of the corral just south of the cabin before turning around and following the path back out to the trailhead.
