The Hamburger Rocks Trail is a fantastic, moderately challenging hike through Capitol Reef National Park. This trail can be done as one long day hike or broken up over a couple of days by camping along the way. The highlight of this trail: The Hamburger Rocks, dark coloured hoodoos that look surprisingly like hamburgers!

Hamburger Rocks Trail Description

The Hamburger Rocks Trail is a fantastic hike for moderately experienced hikers. This trail is long, so if you plan on doing it all in one day, start early and bring tons of water and snacks to fuel your adventure. You may also want to bring along a headlamp in case you wind up finishing in the dark. The trail itself is a gorgeous hike along Halls Creek Canyon wash and ends at the weird and wacky Hamburger rocks: hoodoo formations that look just like hamburgers. This hike can be done over a couple of days, just make sure you pick up a backcountry overnight camping permit before heading out on the trail.

From the trailhead, follow the path south to the wash and start your long hike along Halls Creek. Just past Muley Twist Canyon, look for a trail on the west side of the creek that leads up to the Hamburger Rocks.

Take a rest and enjoy lunch (maybe a burger?) at the rocks before heading back out the way you came.
