Four Pines Hike Description

The Four Pines Hike is a lovely nature walk along a mesa through magical grasslands and towering ponderosa pines. Though this path is open year-round, we highly recommend trekking in the autumn when the crowds have thinned and the air is brisk. Located at the base of the Flatirons, the quintessential Boulder landmark, this area is busy, so expect to share the trail. If you are seeking a more isolated experience, consider an early morning weekday adventure to beat the crowds! As you walk, be sure to keep an eye out for wildlife, like grazing deer, prairie dogs, and rattlesnakes.

Departing from the trailhead, the Four Pines Trail tracks southwest along the rightmost Four Pines Trail. The initial section of the path travels through meadowlands before ascending the mesa into the woodlands. Now beneath the sparse tree coverage of ponderosa pines, enjoy sights of the Flatirons towering above. Follow this path south, merging in onto the Kohler Mesa Trail then onto the Enchanted Mesa Trail. At the next junction, keep right and you will be diverted onto the Woods Quarry Trail. This trail will loop around before hooking onto the Mesa Trail.

Reconnecting with the Enchanted Mesa Trail, hike northeast back onto the Kohler Mesa Trail and Four Pines. Track the Four Pines Trail all the way back to the trailhead, marking the end of your adventure.
