Boulder Viewpoint Trail Description

The Boulder Viewpoint Hike is an epic adventure located on the outskirts of Boulder’s city center. Short but sweet, the trail packs a punch! Keep an eye out for grazing deer as you hike through the luxuriant meadows in the initial segment of the path. As you travel further along the route, you will climb beneath the coverage of the ponderosa pine trees. Rocky and steep in sections, wear sturdy footwear to mitigate the chances of rolling an ankle! If you venture this trail in the winter, be sure to wear microspikes or snowshoes to easily navigate the likely icy and snow-packed terrain.

Embark on your adventure along the Boulder Viewpoint Trail from the Viewpoint Trailhead. From here, track the Viewpoint Trail through the meadowlands. The terrain up to the overlook is winding, so be prepared to navigate several sets of switchbacks. Eventually, the path will travel beneath the shade of towering evergreens. Hike up the path and you will eventually summit the overlook.

From the lookout, enjoy panoramic views of the Boulder cityscape below. Appreciate the busyness of the city as you stand atop a quiet mountainside. From here you will also be able to see the Boulder Star if you hike in the holiday season. The giant star lights up the eastern flank of Flagstaff Mountain in the winter, which rewards hikers and Coloradoans below. When you are done admiring the views, simply retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
