Boulder Falls Trail Description

The Boulder Falls Hike is a wonderful, popular, adventure through a narrow canyon cleavage to the cascades. Nestled amongst towering cliffs you will feel small as you trek to the falls. The awesomeness of the falls is proven by the crowds it draws. The proximity to the city, the accessibility, and the short nature of this path attract outdoor enthusiasts of all sorts, so if you were expecting a sequestered experience, think again. The best time to go is in the early morning when crowds are thinner, so you won’t have to worry about finding a parking spot in the small lot. Though the path is dog-friendly, the terrain is rocky, and the route is narrow, so consider leaving your pup behind for this one! Additionally, if you hike in the winter months microspikes are a must! The narrow, rocky terrain will undoubtedly be incredibly slippery and grippers will help mitigate the chances of a fall.

Year-round the Boulder Falls Trail is an epic experience. Hike through the crevice of Boulder Canyon’s granite cliffs. Perfect for families or a spontaneous adventure, the Boulder Falls Trail is a rite of passage when in the Boulder area. Hike amongst ponderosa pines that emit the greatest smell and up to the cascades. When the falls reveal themselves, you will be cooled off with the fresh spray of the waters. On your next journey to Boulder, this walk is a must-do!

Embark on your adventure from the parking lot off Boulder Canyon Road. From here, carefully cross the road over to the Boulder Falls Trailhead. Now on the north side of the street, track the Plotinus Wall Trail through the forested canyon. Enjoy the amazing sights of the towering pine trees as you hike north along the route. Eventually, you will encounter an intersection. Here, keep right and you will be diverted onto the Boulder Falls Trail. This charming path will guide you up to the stunning cascades.

At this point, you will be overwhelmed by the gorgeous sights of the cascades nestled between the canyon’s walls. Let the mist hit your face and enjoy the meditative sounds of the rushing waters. The mesmerizing sights of the falls will hypnotize you and it will be hard to pull yourself away. When you are ready, retrace your footing along the path all the way back to the trailhead.
