Eleanor and Shimmy Lakes Hike Description

Located in the Trinity Alps Wilderness above Trinity Lake, the Eleanor and Shimmy Lakes Hike offers awe-inspiring views of the diverse landscape. Explore the high country and indulge in the beauty of the natural sanctuary as you climb to the alpine pools. Much of this path is exposed, which offers epic views, but it also warrants extreme conditions. We encourage hikers to check the forecast and dress in layers as insurance against changing conditions. Additionally, much of the terrain is uneven and rocky, so wear a comfy pair of footwear.

Setting out from the Lake Eleanor Trailhead, the Eleanor and Shimmy Lakes Hike follows the Deer Flat Trail north into the wilderness. Gently climbing, you will soon reach Lake Eleanor. Marvel in the beauty of the charming alpine lake, and when you are ready, continue ascending the path through the alpine meadowlands. Minding your footing as you navigate stream crossing and the rocky terrain, you will eventually be rerouted west, signalling you are near Shimmy Lake.

Now wandering along Lick Creek, you will ultimately reach the shores of Shimmy Lake. On a calm day, the crystalline waters mirror the encompassing environment. Revel in the perfect postcard scene of the lake and the interrupted views of the mountainous landscape that surrounds you. Retrace your steps to the trailhead when you are ready to head back.
