Boulder Lakes Hike Description

Seeking out your next adventure in the Shasta-Trinity National Forests? Well, the Boulder Lakes Trail would make a wonderful addition to your hiking itinerary. Indulge yourself in the beauty of the high country and sights of Mount Shasta along this trek. Note the road to the trailhead is rough and rugged, especially in the winter months—a vehicle with high ground clearance and 4-wheel drive is recommended. Though tempting, the Boulder Lakes are not ideal for swimming, but they are for fishing, assuming you have a valid fishing licence.

Embark on your adventure along the Boulder Lakes Hike from the trailhead. Setting out from here, follow the Boulder Lakes Trail southwest, gradually climbing higher into the alpine terrain. This path will weave between sparse tree stands and luxuriant meadowlands. Enjoy the sights and smells as you explore the wilderness, and you will eventually confront an intersection. Here, keep right, and you will be guided up to the shoreline of Boulder Lake.

Admire the scene of the shimmering alpine lake bounded by mixed conifers and granite bluffs. If you have time, head back down the path and trek over to Little Boulder Lake. When you are through exploring the alpine pools, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
