Kangaroo Lake Trail Description
Explore California’s high country along the Kangaroo Lake Trail. This fun family adventure wanders along the shoreline of the crystalline lake hemmed by craggy granite bluffs adorned with lush conifers. In the summer months, bring lunch and swimming attire, and spend the day along the shoreline of the alpine lake. Though chilly, the crystal-clear waters are inviting and refreshing in the warmer weather. As this trail is located at high elevations, we encourage hikers to dress in layers as insurance against ever-changing conditions.
Setting out from the trailhead, the Kangaroo Lake Trail heads east along the shoreline path. This route will plunge down to the lakeshore from the trailhead before diverting northeast. Following this trail along the northern shore of the blue-hued lake, you’ll travel through granite outcrops and mixed conifers. Hugging the curves of the lake, you will ultimately reach the trail’s end in a meadow.
At this point, turn around and retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead. If time and weather permit, hop into the shimmering waters and cool off!
