White Pine Lake Trail Description
The White Pine Lake Trail is a gorgeous 10.0mi hike to a pristine alpine lake in the Utah wilderness. This trail is a challenging route for experienced hikers. With a steep, consistent incline over rocky terrain, hikers should be ready for a strenuous day. Proper hiking footwear, sunscreen, lots of water and lots of snacks are absolutely essential. We recommend bringing along hiking poles as well. If you are starting this hike later in the day, it’s a good idea to bring along a flashlight or a headlamp in case you finish in the dark.
Despite the challenge, the White Pine Lake Trail is one of the most popular hikes in the area. This is because the trail to the lake and the lake itself are so incredibly beautiful. With pristine, azure water, the White Pine Lake reflects its surroundings to create a perfect, mirrored image of Utah’s natural beauty. If the hike up to White Pine Lake doesn’t leave you breathless, the views at the top surely will.
To get to White Pine Lake, begin at the White Pine Trailhead on the south side of highway 210/Little Cottonwood Road. From the trailhead, cross over Little Cottonwood Creek then take a right to follow the Red, White, and Maybird Trail for 0.9mi to a divide. Take a left at this divide to begin up the switchbacks on the White Pine Lake Trail. Follow the White Pine Lake Trail south for 4.1mi to White Pine Lake.
Take a long rest on the shores of White Pine lake and enjoy the beauty of the Utah Wilderness before either turning around and heading back to the trailhead, or setting up camp for a night spent under the stars.
