Despite the name, the Main Fork Bear River Trail to Hell Hole Lake is a beautiful route in the western Uintas. This trail can be done in one, big day, or broken up over a couple of days by camping at Hell Hole Lake. This route can also be done on horseback.
Getting there
This hike begins on the east side of Highway 150, just north of the Hayden Fork Campground.

The Main Fork Bear River Trail to Hell Hole Lake is a fantastic route in the western Uintas. Beginning with a river crossing, this hike starts with a bang. We recommend bringing a set of hiking sandals for this section, so you don’t wind up hiking the rest of the trail in wet boots. With over 10.6mi of trail to explore, and a stunning alpine destination, a hike down the Main Fork Bear River Trail is a great way to spend your day exploring the beauty of the Utah wilderness.
From the trailhead, follow the Main Fork Stillwater Trail as it winds its way south along the banks of the Bear River to Hell Hole Lake.
At Hell Hole Lake, be sure to take a rest and soak in the incredible views before heading back the way you came.
