Smuggler Mountain Trail Description

Whether you are seeking an acclimatization trek, a viewpoint over the city and nearby mountains, or simply a workout, the Smuggler Mountain Trail checks all the boxes. Possessing the perfect balance between scenery and strenuity, the picturesque alpine views will motivate you to persist up to the Warren Lakes. Steep and rocky in sections, take your time and mind your footing as you climb. If you venture out to the trail in the late fall or winter months, just be sure to strap on a pair of microspikes or snowshoes to easily navigate the terrain.

Embark on your adventure along the Smuggler Mountain Trail from the trailhead off Park Circle. From here, track the Smuggler Mountain Road past several historic mine sites and up several switchbacks to the Smuggler Mountain Observation Deck. Revel in the vistas of the city below bounded by snow-dusted peaks, before continuing your trek. From here, take the BTS Trail southeast, reconnecting with the Smuggler Mountain Road at the next intersection. Follow this route east along the tree-lined path all the way to the Warren Lakes, which mark your adventure’s end.

Once you reach the shoreline of the lakes you will be rewarded with breathtaking scenery. Admire the sights of the lakes surrounded by lush vegetation and the views of the rolling hills that frame the background. Once you are through exploring the shores, simply backtrack along the path all the way back to the trailhead.
