The Jenks Lake Trail is a laidback hiking experience in the San Bernardino National Forest that will take you uphill to a charming lake. While out on the trail, you will work your way uphill through the forest alongside Frog Creek to eventually arrive at the peaceful woodland shores of Jenks Lake. Hikers should take note that parking and navigation along the trail are easy, although you will likely want to arrive early to beat out the crowds.

Featuring fairly easy-going terrain, the only real downside to the Jenks Lake Trail is its popularity. While out on your hike you will likely encounter plenty of other outdoor enthusiasts, so if you are looking for a bit of solitude, you may want to arrive early. Parking can also be quite limited at the trailhead, so you should also take that into consideration when planning your adventure.
Even with the high volumes of foot traffic, the Jenks Lake Trail is a fun excursion that the entire family will enjoy. A winding track through the forest, small amount of elevation gain, and scenic views over the lake all make this a fantastic hiking route in the San Bernardino National forest.
Setting out from the trailhead at the Barton Flats Visitor Center, you will make your way east through the forest on a route that runs parallel to CA-38. Eventually, you will turn right onto Barton Flats Road and follow it south through the forest for 0.2mi. Here, you will cross over Frog Creek and continue along the road as it turns to the west.
After another 0.2mi along the road, you will arrive at a junction and turn to the left along a winding road leading uphill. Take some time as you work your way through the forest over the next 0.6mi, at which point you will arrive at the scenic shores of Jenks Lake.
Turning to the left, you will follow along the path as it skirts around the water’s edge and offers some nice views over Jenks Lake. Keep the water on your right as you complete the short loop and arrive back at the junction. Here, you will turn left and follow the same route downhill on the return into the trailhead for the Jenks Lake Trail.
